An Arlington first-grader walking to school was hit and killed in front of her mother Wednesday morning.
Arlington police said 6-year-old Sarah Brazzell was hit by a pickup truck at Ichabod Circle and Park Springs Boulevard just before 7 a.m., when it was still dark outside.
The child left her apartment on Ichabod Circle on her way to Dunn Elementary School and crossed two lanes of Park Springs Boulevard and stopped in a grassy median, an Arlington Independent School District spokesperson said. A truck coming around a curve in the road hit the girl when she turned around and ran back across the street toward her mother after her mother called to her from the sidewalk.
The driver stopped to help Sarah, who was taken to a hospital, where she died.
Police said they do not plan to charge the driver because there is no indication that he was speeding or driving under the influence.
